  • Stockholm Syndrome and controlling relationships: to understand and act
by Valérie Le Goff-Cubilier on November 29, 2023

Stockholm Syndrome is not a validated psychiatric diagnosis but is widely used in abusive situations where the behaviour of the victims is otherwise inexplicable. It carries a heavily judgmental weight. Comparison with ascendency abusive relationship shows common points, giving a better understanding of its mechanisms and subsequent victims behavior, which are of dire consequences in social, therapeutic and legal terms.

  • Spatially segregated defects and IGF1-responsiveness of hilar and peripheral biliary organoids from a model of Alagille syndrome
by Afshan Iqbal on November 28, 2023

CONCLUSIONS: Hilar and peripheral Jag1^(Ndr/Ndr) ICOs exhibit differences in Notch signalling status, proliferation, and cholangiocyte commitment which may result in cholangiocyte-to-hepatocyte transdifferentiation. While Jag1^(Ndr/Ndr) pICOs can be rescued by IGF1, hICOs are unresponsive, perhaps due to their hepatocyte-like state and/or expression of IGF transport components. IGF1 represents a potential therapeutic for peripheral bile ducts.

  • Lung Carcinoids: A Comprehensive Review for Clinicians
by Dan Granberg on November 25, 2023

Lung carcinoids are neuroendocrine tumors, categorized as typical or atypical carcinoids based on their histological appearance. While most of these tumors are slow-growing neoplasms, they still possess malignant potential. Many patients are diagnosed incidentally on chest X-rays or CT scans. Presenting symptoms include cough, hemoptysis, wheezing, dyspnea, and recurrent pneumonia. Endocrine symptoms, such as carcinoid syndrome or ectopic Cushing's syndrome, are rare. Surgery is the primary...

  • Time-Dependent Fluid-Structure Interaction Simulations of a Simplified Human Soft Palate
by Peng Li on November 25, 2023

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is a common sleep-related disorder. It is characterized by recurrent partial or total collapse of pharyngeal upper airway accompanied by induced vibrations of the soft tissues (e.g., soft palate). The knowledge of the tissue behavior subject to a particular airflow is relevant for realistic clinic applications. However, in-vivo measurements are usually impractical. The goal of the present study is to develop a 3D fluid-structure interaction model for the...
