- Hearing the Silence and Silenced: Co-Producing Research on Infant-Feeding Experiences and Practices With Black Women With HIVby Bakita Kasadha on January 2, 2025
In the UK, up to 700 people with HIV give birth annually; the majority are Black African migrant cisgender women. Infant-feeding decisions for parents with HIV are complex, requiring parents to weigh-up the small risk of HIV transmission via breastmilk and UK guidelines recommending formula milk, against strong personal and societal expectations to breastfeed. We explored this situation in a qualitative study. In this paper, we discuss our experiences of co-producing our research on...
- Clinicopathological presentation of liver abscesses and hydatid liver disease from two South African tertiary hospitalsby Krevosha Pillay on January 2, 2025
CONCLUSION: In this study, the most common type of liver abscess was PLAs of biliary origin in middle-aged males. The microbiology was similar to those described in Asian populations, and non-surgical management via percutaneous drainage was sufficient in the majority of cases with acceptable morbidity and mortality.
- Patient-specific brain fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography can detect the first effects of combination antiretroviral therapy in patient with HIV infectionby Miyako M Chikanishi on January 1, 2025
Patient-specific brain fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG PET) can detect areas with abnormal FDG uptake in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) before and after combination antiretroviral therapy (cART). There were few reports about the same patients before and shortly after cART in FDG PET. It is well known that HIV-RNA levels decrease and cognitive impairments in patients with HIV tend to improve on neurocognitive performance tests 6 months after starting cART....
- The clinical indexes and immunological status of HIV/AIDS patients undergoing different highly active antiretroviral treatmentsby Xinrui Wan on January 1, 2025
CONCLUSION: The results showed that HIV/AIDS patients treated with different first-line antiretroviral treatment strategies had different hematopoietic, liver, renal and immune system functions. Furthermore, some clinical indicators such as WBC, PLT, TC, TG, and ALT could predict the CD4+ count, CD8+ count, CD4/CD8 ratio levels and recuperation of HIV/AIDS patients, therefore, should be monitored by clinicians.
