ABSTRACT
The objective of this article is to estimate the prevalence and factors associated with alcohol use disorder in men living in rural quilombola communities located in the north of Minas Gerais, Brazil. This is a cross-sectional study carried out in 2019 based on structured interviews and application of the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT). Binary logistic regression was conducted. It was found that 21,3% of respondents had risky consumption, harmful use and probable alcohol dependence. There was a greater chance of alcohol use disorder among quilombola men aged between 18 and 39 years old (OR= 3,98 – 95%CI 1,65;9,57) and 40 to 59 years old (OR= 3,62 – 95%CI 1,53-8,57), who suffered discrimination in health services (OR=3,38 – 95%CI 1,00-11,71) and self-reported depression (OR=2,79 – 95%CI 1,24-6,27). The overlapping vulnerabilities reveal the importance of health interventions that meet these demands and that dialogue with the local culture. It is necessary that training curricula incorporate discussions about the health of traditional communities and that health policies and programs enter rural spaces so that they can be implemented with equity.
