Bipolar II

Resources for Patients and Caregivers

A type of bipolar disorder characterized by depressive and hypomanic episodes.
It involves at least one depressive episode lasting at least two weeks and at least one hypomanic episode lasting at least four days.
Depressive symptoms include sadness or hopelessness. Hypomanic symptoms include a persistently elevated or irritable mood.
Treatment includes counseling and medications, such as mood stabilizers.

  • Comorbid anxiety in depression and rTMS treatment response: A retrospective study
by Reza Kazemi on January 31, 2025

CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that in both UDD and BDD, physical anxiety symptoms are linked to less response to rTMS, whereas subjective anxiety symptoms are associated with more response. Future prospective studies are required to confirm the predictive value of anxiety symptoms in UDD and BDD patients who suffer from comorbid anxiety.

  • Observation of ultraviolet photothermoelectric bipolar impulse in gallium-based heterostructure nanowires
by Jinjie Zhu on January 30, 2025

The incorporation of thermal dynamics alongside conventional optoelectronic principles holds immense promise for advancing technology. Here, we introduce a GaON/GaN heterostructure-nanowire ultraviolet electrochemical cell of observing a photothermoelectric bipolar impulse characteristic. By leveraging the distinct thermoelectric properties of GaON/GaN, rapid generation of hot carriers establishes bidirectional instantaneous gradients in concentration and temperature within the nanoscale...

  • Heterogeneity analysis provides evidence for a genetically homogeneous subtype of bipolar-disorder
by Caroline C McGrouther on January 29, 2025

CONCLUSIONS: Our methodology has successfully identified a replicable homogeneous genetic subgroup of bipolar disorder. This subgroup may represent a collection of correlated genetic risk-factors for BDI. By investigating the subgroup's bicluster-informed polygenic-risk-scoring (PRS), we find that the disease-specific pattern highlighted by the bicluster can be leveraged to eliminate noise from our GWAS analyses and improve risk prediction. This improvement is particularly notable when using...

  • Longitudinal Stability of Mood-Related Resting-State Networks in Youth with Symptomatic Bipolar-I/II Disorder
by Danella M Hafeman on January 27, 2025

Bipolar disorder (BD) is characterized by temporal instability of mood and energy, but the neural correlates of this instability are poorly understood. In previous cross-sectional studies, mood state in BD has been associated with differential functional connectivity (FC) amongst several subcortical regions and ventromedial prefrontal cortex. Here, we assess whether BD is associated with longitudinal instability within this mood-related network of interest (NOI). Young people with BD-I/II were...
